Tadka on Koshimbir (Salad)

Jivanta phodni or live Tempering is a new technique to add a tadka. Its all about pouring flavour infused hot oil onto your dish. Lets check out this how we can make used of this technique to enhanance the taste of a simple salad

So what is jivanta phodni / live tempering?
Jiavnat phodni or live tempering which is also called pali phodni is all about pouring flavor-infused hot oil onto your dish

Till now we have performed tadkas at the beginning of the cooking process. but this techniques requires adding tadka at the END. This radically changes the flavours it adds to the dish.

Today we will prepare a quick koshimbir or salad and then pour the tadka on top of it.  Besides salads, you can use this technique for chutneys, dals, and kadhis. And it comes in very handy when you want to impress your guests!

Recipe

Preparation Time: 10 mins Cooking Time: 10 mins
Ingredients: Method:
For Salad

  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 small diced tomato
  • Coriander chopped
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • salt to taste

For Tadka

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • pinch of asafoetida (hinga)
Make the salad

  • add all the ingredients for the salad in a medium sized bowl
  • Mix it well and keep the salad aside

Make the Tadka

  • For this, we will use the tadka vessel. if you dont have this vessle you can still do this tadka using the alternative technique as shown in the dal tadka video.
  • heat the oil in the vessel
  • add cumin seeds and let them sizzle. Turn the gas lower so that they don’t burn
  • add red chili powder
  • turmeric powder and asafoetida (hinga)
  • let it sizzle for around 30 seconds
  • Now pour this hot flavored oil in the salad and mix the salad gently.
  • add some salad in the hot vessle and mix well. This way you don’t waste even the slightest flavored oil.
You can enjoy this side dish with almost anything may t be as simile as dal rice or as non veg dish as kheema pav.

You. can always play around with ingredients and make a different salad you like.
