Chicken Chilli Recipe

A popular indo-chinese appetiser in Indian restaurants and parties, this dish can be easily recreated in your home kitchen as well.

Ingredients: Method:

For Marination:

  • 500 gm boneless chicken, cut into curry pieces
  • 1 tbsp corn flour
  • 1 tsp ground pepper
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp red chilli paste (watch my video below to know how to make an alternative to this, in case you do not have this paste)
  • salt to taste

Other Ingredients:

  • 1 small-sized onion, roughly cut into big cubes
  • 1/2 capsicum (roughly cut big cubes)
  • 4-5 green chillies & 2.3 dried red chillies, slit into half
  • some spring onions (bulbs & greens separated)
  • 6-7 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp white vinegar
  • red chilli paste
  • sugar
  • cornflour

Marination: 

  • Add the corn flour in 4 tbsp water and mix well
  • take all the marination ingredients in a bowl, and add the corn flour slurry to give a glossy touch
  • mix well & keep the marinate for atleast 30 mins

Fry the Chicken

  • Deep fry the chicken marinate. Keep it aside in a separate bowl. 

Remaining procedure:

  • On a high flame in a wok, add around 2 tbsp oil
  • add chopped garlic & red chillies
  • add onions & bell pepper
  • add red chilli paste
  • add spring onion bulbs
  • add soy sauce & white vinegar
  • add 1 tbsp sugar
  • add 3 – 4 tsp cornflour starch slurry, this will make the sauce a bit thick
  • add the fried chicken & toss it to mix it well with the sauce
  • add spring onion greens
  • finally add salt to taste. Remember the soy sauce already has salt content, so add salt cautiously 
Your chili chicken is ready to be enjoyed. You can enjoy it with some fried rice.
