Besan and Capsicum Masala Recipe | Green Pepper Besan ki Sabji

Pith perleli simla mirchi chi bhaji’ (Marathi) literally refers to a chickpea flour spread in green bell peppers. It is a surprisingly simple, yet delicious savoury dish. Best had with hot parotha or a roti. 

Recipe

Prepartion Time: 10 mins Cooking Time: 15 mins
Ingredients: Method:
  • 3 chopped green Capsicum / bell peppers
  • 1 small chopped onion
  • 3 tbspp basen / gram floor
  • Mustard seeds
  • Cumin seeds
  • turmeric powder
  • red chilli powder
  • hinga
  • sugar
  • salt to taste

Roast the Besan:

  • In a pan tale 2 tbsp oil and add the basen in it.
  • Keep stiring and roast the basen for 3-4 mins so that the raw smell of the basen goes away
  • Once done, take it off the gas for later use

Method

  • Add 2 tbsp oil in a pan and let it heat up
  • Add mustard seeds,cumin seeds and let them sizzle
  • Add onions and mix well
  • Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp red chilli powder.
  • Add the chopped Capsicums Satue well
  • Cook for 5-5 mins till the Capsicums and onions become a little soft
  • Add little water so that the sabzi doesnt become dry once we add the basen
  • Add small lump of jaggery/1 tsp sugar (optional) and salt to taste
  • Finally add the roasted basen and mix well on a low flame.
  • cover the pan and cook for another 4-5 mins so that the basen is cooked

Garnish with coriander and server with phulka or chapati
